Get on board the Higher Education Roadshow 2018

By: Sophie Hazell

The Next Steps South West double decker bus is touring the region for a second year this September and October, offering access to free, personalised and impartial support for young people and their parents and carers. Visiting schools and colleges, as well as two community days in Truro and Plymouth, the friendly and approachable NSSW team and Student Ambassadors will be providing information about Higher and Degree Level Apprenticeships, Virtual Reality campus tours and interactive careers signposting.

Young people at the schools and colleges the bus will visit will have the unique opportunity to take part in masterclasses from visiting higher education academics, offering insights into cutting edge technology and research. Students can also take part in challenges to develop their key skills and can take away materials with information and guidance designed to make their journey to higher education, clear and stress-free.

Yasmin England, from Pool Academy, took a group of year 10 and 11s to Cornwall College this week, she commented that the students had found the experience helpful, saying:

“We are grateful to NSSW for inviting us onto their bus. It was great to see their resources and take part in the modelling clay activity.”
The Roadshow community days welcome parents and carers to come along and take part in the activities, and ask questions of their own about higher education, funding and support services.

Roadshow Community Days
Saturday 15th September – Lemon Quay, Truro, 9am-4pm
Wednesday 26th September – The Piazza, Plymouth City centre, 9am–6pm

We are also running a photo competition on social media, simply share a photo of the bus in your neighbourhood and you could win £50 of Amazon vouchers. Remember to tag @NextStepsSW and follow our page! #WeAreNCOP.
