Articulate! is part of The Oracy Workshops.
NSSW has worked extensively with Julia Ward and Ali Shorer in previous phases of the project, with extremely successful exam outcomes and evidence of impact on the participating students.
Course details
- The programme is designed to nurture effective oracy skills through improving communication and building confidence
- It is a 5-day Monday-Friday intensive programme
- It is for Year 9 pupils with low levels of confidence in communication
- The group size is fourteen students
- An NSSW Institutional Officer will be present throughout the week
- All pupils take an English Speaking Board exam – Speech for Employability. This includes using standard English in a range of formal and informal contexts covering the following elements:
- Talk – give a short speech / presentation
- Interview
- Telephone call
- Listen, respond and exchange views
Tutors
The course is delivered by tutors from The Oracy Workshops, supported by trained NSSW Institutional Officers
Schools
- Eligibility: NSSW selected Attainment Raising schools
- Cost: There is no cost for eligible schools
- The course is delivered at school
- Selected Year 9 students are taken off curriculum for the whole week
- Schools are required to register with the English Speaking Board
- Schools are required to share (ESB) exam results with NSSW
- Initially, one 5-day course is available per school
- Preferably delivered before Easter,
- Available dates and bookings through NSSW Institutional Officers
Evaluation
NSSW will evaluate raised attainment through analysing the ESB exam results
