Why Visit an Open Day?

By: Sophie Hazell

Choosing where you study is just as important as what you study, which is why an open day (or evening) is so valuable. By attending an open event potential students can get a real taste of life on campus and the surrounding area; viewing facilities up-close and finding out about courses from the people who currently teach and study them! Some questions just can’t be answered online or in a prospectus, so think of an open day as your chance to check whether an institution feels right.

Wherever you decide to study, it’s important to do as much research as you can in order to make the choice that is right for you. If you’re still deciding which subject area you want to specialise in, we suggest starting with our Course Guide – an up to date listing of higher education options in the South West.

Once you’ve narrowed your interests, visit Whatuni to compare individual courses and institutions. After completing these two steps you should have a rough shortlist of preferred universities or colleges to begin registering your interest with.

Before attending an open day make sure you’re fully prepared with questions that matter to you, we suggest reading this great article from UCAS. There is also transferable advice in our blog piece: Making the most out of UCAS Exhibition.
