Lindsey Cooper – Clearing: On the other end of the phone

By: Haydon Anstis

If you’re worried about potentially going through clearing, just remember, many of the people on the other side of the phone will have been through the same process. Lindsey Cooper is one of them, and here’s what she had to say:

“Having struggled with my A-Levels, I went through Clearing, and calling the hotline was one of the best things I ever did! I was able to talk through all my options with a member of staff which led to me choosing a degree with a Foundation Year – an option that I hadn’t even known existed before.”

Eleven years on from that phone call, Lindsey has now graduated from her Undergraduate and Postgraduate degrees and will be working Clearing for the 7th time this year as a member of staff!

“I love hearing the change in people’s voices when you speak with them and explain the number of options open to students who need a plan B. They go from nervous to excited, or from upset to ecstatic. It always makes me remember how anxious I was when I was in that position.”

Now you’ve heard from Lindsey, remember, Clearing is a safety net that should not be perceived as the bargain basement option, and for many people it has been a huge positive.
