Subject Knowledge for Physics Teaching – CPD

Brought to you by STEM Learning – Subject Knowledge for Physics Teaching (SKPT) courses, delivered by The Ogden Trust, are free blended learning CPD for key stage 3 and key stage 4 teachers teaching physics without a physics specialism.

There are six modules available, and each will:

  • develop teaching skills and confidence in delivering lessons that bring physics to life in the classroom.
  • consider mathematical problem-solving, conceptual challenges, practical work, and pedagogical reflections.
  • link teachers to a supportive learning network led by experienced physics practitioners.

The modules planned for 2023/24 are: Waves, Electricity, Atomic Physics, Forces, Energy and Matter Space.

Each module will require up to 20 hours of learning and will be completed over approximately eight weeks. They will be delivered and supported by physics specialists across England and will include face-to-face sessions, online tutorials, and independent learning.

Participants must be state school teachers in England and must not have a physics ITT qualification. On completion of a module, a subsidy of £200 will be available to the school (subject to conditions) as a contribution towards teacher cover costs. Alongside each SKPT module, teachers can obtain a Subject Knowledge Award from the Institute of Physics.
