Plymouth Marjon University – Summer School

Plymouth Marjon University are delighted to launch the 2024 Summer School running on campus daily between Monday 22 July and Wed 24 July inclusive. This is a FREE opportunity for students from Year 12 considering study at university.

Our Summer School aims to give you a taster of studying in your chosen subject area at HE level, what life on campus might be like as well as learning new skills and making new friends.

The programme will be led by academic staff, members of the Schools and Colleges Engagement Team and Student Ambassadors. The aim is to give an insight into the social aspects of life, as well as the academic. There will be a choice of taster subjects to choose from including Education, Psychology, Sport, Nursing, Criminology and Forensics.

There will  be pre-UCAS workshops on student finance and personal statement writing, so that students are prepared should they wish to apply to Higher Education, plus the opportunity to learn valuable research and referencing skills to help learning and retention and build readiness for study beyond Sixth Form.

Please note this project is non-residential but food will be provided.

Everyone is welcome to apply, but please note places are ringfenced for people who meet the following criteria:

  • The student attends one of our Progression Agreement schools
  • The student lives in a ‘low participation’ neighbourhood as defined by home postcode.
  • Neither parent (or guardian) has attended university in the UK or abroad
  • The student is, or has been, a looked after young person.
  • The student has a disability or specific learning difficulty (including dyslexia)

If you’re not sure whether you do, please email us at visitus@marjon.ac.uk - you’d be surprised how many people do meet the criteria!

“I’d already thought about university, but Summer School has narrowed down what I want to do as well as widening up what I could do in the future. Summer School has confirmed for me the fact I want to come to university, I can see university sessions are so much different to college work. It’s more in depth, you get taught how to learn, rather than just being spoken at. I felt like I’ve really bonded with everyone over the week.”
