The Box is recruiting up to eight readers in Plymouth to participate in an exciting new artwork celebrating community and reading.
Readers aged 18 and over are invited to take part in an artwork titled Elliptical Reading by Abigail Reynolds as part of British Art Show 9 which is coming to The Box in October 2022.
Each participant will select a book to read as part of a weekly group reading that will take place on Wednesdays from 12.30-1.30pm in the Active Archives library of The Box throughout September for 8 sessions (starting from Weds 28th Sept).
No performance or reading skills are necessary, just a love of books and excitement about joining a new group of readers. The books chosen and read by participants will be re-bound by the artist with the reader’s hand printed on the cover.
The books will be shelved in The Box for the duration of British Art Show 9 for visitors to see and read, after which they will be gifted back from the artist.
To take part in the work, there will be a reader’s workshop at The Box on Wednesday 13th July from 12.30 to 1.30pm in the Simmon’s Learning Room. Refreshments will be provided.
This is a chance to hear more about the artwork, and to explore favourite books with other readers in a workshop with the artist.
