Why does this matter?

When it comes to higher education, some people are ‘in the know’ and some aren’t.

The people who go to university are usually the ones who already have answers to questions like ‘What do I want to do for a career?’ or ‘How would university benefit me?’

If nobody in your family has been to university before, you won’t be as clued up as the guys who have parents, brothers and sisters who’ve all done it. And if you haven’t thought about what’s next, or what university could do for you, how are you supposed to know whether it’s the right path for you?

That’s where we come in. We’re here to help you get the information you need, to make the choice that’s right for you.

So, why go to university?

There’s a reason why 1.75 million* people decide to pay the fees and go to university or college to get a higher education qualification, and it’s really simple: there are loads of benefits.

Whether it’s earning more on average during your working life, learning the skills employers find valuable, developing skills that could help you change career, or being seen as more employable when you’re job hunting, graduating from university can set you on a successful path forward. Find out more about the benefits university brings.

‘I don’t like school so why would I want to go to university?’

It’s not just about what’s possible after university that makes going worthwhile. Your time in higher education is pretty valuable too, for all sorts of reasons.

It’s totally different from going to school. You get treated like an adult and don’t get told what to do all the time. There are no bells going off telling you to go to your next lesson or break. You are your own boss and control what you do. You get to choose what you study so you can pick something you really enjoy and you’ll be on a course with other people who really enjoy it too.

You’ll also meet new people and make new friends, and you’ll get to discover a whole new town or city with new opportunities and experiences.
