Helping combat financial, academic and emotional stress at university is pivotal in ensuring a happy and healthy experience.
My biggest piece of advice is to not underestimate the power of fresh air and exercise in reducing feels of stress and improving general wellbeing, especially when it is sunny! Perhaps go on a run or invite a friend to go on a walk with you, giving you a chance to help you destress and reset. I like to end my walks at a coffee shop as even a small treat for yourself can soon boost moral!

I would also recommend writing a list of all the tasks you need to complete so you don’t become mentally overwhelmed trying to remember everything. Equally, you can journal your feelings and jot down your worries, even if you then decide to rip the piece of paper up; it can be very cathartic!
To stop myself feeling so stressed in the first place I like to write a weekly plan on my A3 whiteboard and always keep my planner with me which helps to organise my very busy life! University support services are also on hand to support you emotionally during your time at university. At the University of Plymouth, where I study, I am aware of the option to book counselling sessions and know that therapy dogs visit the library during exam season.
Finally, depending on how far from home you decide to study, planning regular visits home may help to combat stress and provide you with an opportunity to reset. A weekend off from doing your washing, planning your meals etc could be exactly what you need!
