Go Higher West Yorkshire (GHWY) CPD programme is funded by the Uni Connect programme and offers a wide range of virtual opportunities for teachers, educators and advisors who support young people aged 11- 18.
Upcoming Online Sessions (online unless otherwise stated):
- Thursday 30th April 3-4.30pm – All about the Creative Industries– Learn more about this exciting growth industry for our region and how to apply to creative courses from HE professionals and students. We will share opportunities and activities for learners to develop creative skills.
- Thursday 7th May 3- 4.30pm – Student Finance: Lifelong Learning Entitlement Update – To enable us to support learners with accurate information, Sammie Hutchinson from the Student Loans Company will provide an update on the new Lifelong Learning Entitlement, which is due to come into effect for 2027 HE entrants.
- Thursday 14th May 3-4.30pm – UCAS Fair Access Updates and Resources – Would you like to know more about how we can support underrepresented students on their HE journey? Ellie Rowley, Policy and Strategy Manager- Widening Access and Participation at UCAS will lead us through data and insights from the UCAS fair access programme and share initiatives that UCAS have developed to support underrepresented learners. GHWY will share key resources.
- Wednesday 21st May, 6.30–7.30pm – How to develop your personal brand – A free webinar on developing your personal brand for students (Year 11–13, T Levels, BTEC) and their parents or carers. Hosted by Go Higher West Yorkshire in partnership with Get My First Job, the session will teach attendees how to stand out in applications and interviews, improve CVs and personal statements, leverage social media, connect with industry experts, and take practical steps to showcase their unique strengths—helping students make stronger applications for apprenticeships or higher education.Thursday 4th June – Thursday 9th July. Care to Go Higher. This 6 week course will give those working with Care Experienced Young People the tools and knowledge they need to support informed decision making about their education.Plus watch the webinar: All About Health And Social Care, on demand. By taking part in this webinar, attendees will:

- develop a clearer understanding of how to support learners exploring health and social care pathways
- gain up-to-date insight into Labour Market Information linked to the sector

- Tuesday 10th June, 3.00-4.30pm – Student Finance Updates and Insights – An essential update session designed to help you confidently support learners on their higher education journey. With the Post-16 White Paper confirming key changes to the student finance system, Sammie Hutchinson (Funding Information Services Account Manager, SLC) will walk you through what’s new and what it means for your students.
- Friday 10th July 9.15-3.34pm at leeds College of Building – GHWY Teacher’ and Advisors’ Conference – We are delighted to announce that registration is now open for our flagship Go Higher West Yorkshire (GHWY) Teachers’ and Advisers’ Conference. Join us for a day of CPD (lunch provided): keynote speaker Tracy Brabin (Mayor of West Yorkshire). The theme of this year’s event is ‘Championing Diversity across Higher Education’. It is aimed at anyone supporting young people to make informed choices about their future.
Delegates will benefit from:
- Networking with 13 HE providers in the GHWY partnership to develop opportunities for your careers programmes
- Receiving up-to-date information about the HE offer from a diverse student panel and interactive workshops
- Deepening an understanding of how we can support the progression of vulenrable groups such as Males on Free School Meals, SEND, Care Experienced and minoritised learners
