Essay Competitions – English and Law

An opportunity to share your ideas about English and Law from the University of Exeter.

The University of Exeter, want to hear your ideas about English and Law. This is the 3rd of a series of essay competitions that the University of Exeter are running throughout the year. It is open to students from Year 11-13 studying any Level 2 or Level 3 course.  Students can either submit a 1,000 word essay or a 6-7 minute video.  There will be two prizes. One for the best essay (1000 words), and one for the best video entry (6-7 minutes).

English

  • Write about your favourite ending to a novel, and what did you like about it?
  • What can a poem say or do that cannot be said or done with any other form of language?
  • How might literature be a catalyst for social transformation?

Law

  • Critically analyse the effectiveness of utilitarian forms punishment in preventing crime.
  • Discuss the importance of judicial independence.
  • What challenges does the UK criminal justice system face today?

The deadline for entries is 9th February
